SK 103: Sea Kayak Safety & Rescues

This course is for paddlers who have learned basic strokes and rescues, but are looking for continued practice and additional rescues. Sea kayak rescues learned in Level 1 (i.e., the assisted "T," paddle float rescue, and contact towing) will be practiced and perfected, and new variations presented, including techniques for dealing with injured or exhausted paddlers (e.g., the "scoop" rescue, towing using a sea kayaking tow system, etc.) and alternative means of reentering your kayak in an emergency, such as the Eskimo bow rescue and the paddle-float assisted re-enter and roll.

This class is ideal for paddlers who have completed our SK 101: Sea Kayak Essentials course or who’ve already had sea kayaking experience, but would like to improve their confidence on the coast. Paddle strokes are not taught in this class, and experience with basic rescues is expected of participants. This class is taught in protected conditions, however, paddlers should be prepared for lots of immersion!

Prerequisites: SK 101: Sea Kayak Essentialsor equivalent experience.
