LEARN WITH THE AREA'S BEST INSTRUCTORS
41° North offers a full line-up of American Canoe Association (ACA) approved kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) courses, taught by professionally certified ACA instructors. In fact, we offer the most comprehensive instructional program in the lower Great Lakes, with classes for beginners through training and certification for instructors and guides.
SMALL CLASS SIZES ENSURE YOU WON'T GET LOST IN THE CROWD
Group lessons are regularly scheduled throughout the paddling season. We maintain strict 6:1 student:teacher ratios (3:1 for kayak roll classes) to ensure that you get plenty of individualized attention. We also offer private lessons and custom group programs tailored to your learning goals.
Our classes are sequenced to help you develop core skills and have fun doing it. And, since we know that the key to learning is doing, our programs maximize your time on the water, rather than on the shore
WHEN IT COMES TO GEAR, WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED.
Don't have your own kayak or SUP? No worries! 41 North has you covered! For kayak classes, we'll hook you up with a recreational touring or sea kayak, paddle, life jacket, sprayskirt (for all sea kayak classes), paddle float, and bilge pump. Our kayak rolling clinics include use of a whitewater kayak, paddle, spray skirt, helmet, and life jacket.
For SUP classes, we can provide a stable 10' or 11' hard board, lightweight paddle, life jacket (inflatable waist belt or standard inherently buoyant PFD), and leash for a small additional fee.
Are you looking explore inland waterways and slow moving rivers, gliding silently as you sneak up on herons and egrets in coastal marshes? Or perhaps you want to cover miles of open coast, packing enough gear for a multi-day island-hopping adventure? Or does taking on waves and crashing surf sound like your idea of fun? If any--or all of the above--sound appealing to you, our classes will help get you closer to your goals.
Whether you want to paddle for fitness or fun (or both), paddle-boarding is a fantastic way to get out on the water. Our SUP classes focus on the footwork, paddle strokes, and safety skills necessary to safely enjoy your SUP experience.
All courses come with a properly sized SUP, paddle, leash, and inflatable or inherently bouyant life jacket (depending on the nature of the program).
American Canoe Association (ACA)
41 North offers American Canoe Assocation (ACA) instructor and trip leader certification programs in both kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. The ACA is the largest paddlesports organization in the United States and a proud partner of the US Olympic Canoe and Kayak teams.
